Photos from Paris – Cityscapes of the Capital Paris - Photographs of the Town on the Banks of the River Seine

Paris is one of the great capital cities and truly one of the mostly photographed cities of the world. With a history that goes back two thousand years it commands the respect of all those who visit it with the beauty of its architecture, its natural site on the banks of the River Seine and its culture which delights those who search it out.

Known by a number of names throughout the years, Paris has been called the 'city of love' and the 'city of light' and has enjoyed a reputation for being one of the most romantic cities in the whole world. Tourists and foreigners visit Paris by the millions every year and you'll be hard pressed to book yourself on flights to Paris if you don't book months ahead in advance. Paris plays host to some of the world's most iconic landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, the beautiful Louvre Museum and the Arc de Triomphe.

The heart of Paris is the River Seine and it is on its banks that much of the city was laid out in the 19th century. The Louvre and Gare D’Orsay museums are on opposite banks and the famous Arc de Triomphe and Tuileries Garden follow the river’s course. But perhaps the most iconic structure of Paris is the Eiffel Tower, built for the 1889 Universal Exhibition as the tallest structure in the world and still today one of the best known in the world. From its summit there are superb photographic views of Paris; up river to the historic and beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral, north towards Montmartre and the church of Sacre Coeur, west towards the modern financial centre of La Defense and the Great Arch.
